5th Place: Great Britain vs Chinese Taipei

GREAT BRITAIN DOMINATE AGAIN AGAINST CHINESE TAIPEI

Great Britain firmly secure the 5th Place at these 2009 World Games. Unfortunately Chinese Taipei seemed to run out of options in this 5th Place Playoff. Great Britain dominated in the air limiting the Chinese Taipei’s hucking options of Chinese Taipei, whilst good marking forced their handlers to throw away.

5th Place Game
Both teams start the game with efficient clean offense – the crowd is enthusiastically cheering the home team on. They cheer madly as Wei-Chiao Chang catches to tie the score at 1:1. It looks like that Chinese Taipei arrived with their game heads on this time. A number of throwaways and a great defence by Auralyn Mackenzie gives Great Britain the lead. They now have the chance to put on their very effective zone defence. Taiwan don’t seem to want to swing the disc at the back and look deep when it´s not really an option.  Great Britain punishes and pull ahead quickly to 6:1. David Pichler is really spoiling Chinese Taiwan’s fun today. Unlike this morning, Chinese Taipei don’t give up and fight back this time. A great defence by Hsien-Pin Cho and catches in the endzone by Che-Kai Chen and Guan Hau Chao bring back the score to 6:3. The Great Britain defence is strong and Chinese Taipei are often pinned to the sideline. Ya-Hui Yang manages to squeeze into a tiny corner of the endzone for point. 6:4 to Great Britain. Great Britain don’t turnover this time and take the half 7 to 4.

5th Place Game

The British keep using their zone after the half and it’s an easy score to Jane Holmes. Chinese Taipei struggled but Lin-Yi Lee makes an all important catch in the endzone. 8:5 to Great Britain. Chinese Taipei just keeps hucking too far and Great Britain pulls ahead. Great Britain led 11:5.  Both teams are scrap it out for the next point. Sion Scone finally manages to hit Adam Holt with the disc in the endzone. Great Britain have match point. When Chinese Taipei players finally connect the crowd goes wild. Yu-Chia Chao pass to Wei-Chiao Chang gives them a last point before Christian Nistri seals the win for Great Britain with a throw to Matthew Beavan. Chinese Taipei have been a great host nation at this tournament and really added a bit of flair to this 2009 World Games.
